NRP 62 is solely dedicated to advanced smart materials and low-level system integration. Research includes both numerical modelling and simulation as well as processing technologies.
Under the aspect of problem-solving, research on new materials will be directed towards:
- synthesis and production of new materials;
- production of components;
- system integration;
- handling of new functionalities.
Two types of projects coexist within NRP 62: Projects with predictable application potential where a scenario for industrial exploitation has already been established at the beginning, and exploratory "high risk/high reward" projects with more speculative application potential.
The projects are divided into four modules:
- Smart shape transformers for macroscopic use
- Stimuli-responsive materials for the microscopic range
- Smart drug delivery materials
- Exploratory research for smart materials
