Main research topics

NRP 62 is solely dedicated to advanced smart materials and low-level system integration. Research includes both numerical modelling and simulation as well as processing technologies.

Under the aspect of problem-solving, research on new materials will be directed towards:

  • synthesis and production of new materials;
  • production of components;
  • system integration;
  • handling of new functionalities.

Two types of projects coexist within NRP 62: Projects with predictable application potential where a scenario for industrial exploitation has already been established at the beginning, and exploratory "high risk/high reward" projects with more speculative application potential.

The projects are divided into four modules:

  • Smart shape transformers for macroscopic use
  • Stimuli-responsive materials for the microscopic range
  • Smart drug delivery materials
  • Exploratory research for smart materials
